Lewis Hamilton y Heikki Kovalainen acabaron la sesión de hoy viernes cuarto y séptimo respectivamente. Lewis completó 25 vueltas y consiguió el mejor tiempo de 1.23.983. Heikki realizó 29 vueltas con un tiempo de 1.24.365.

El tiempo fue hoy el principal tema de conversación en Monza. La llovizna que caía a primeras horas de la mañana fue sustituida por un fuerte chaparrón a mitad de la primera sesión de entrenamientos, mientras que el sol hizo su aparición antes del rodaje de la tarde.

En un día que amaneció con lluvia, el equipo Red Bull Racing tuvo una buena actuación en la jornada de entrenamientos libres del Gran Premio de Italia. En la primera sesión David Coulthard finalizó en la duodécima posición con un tiempo de 1’38”303 y Mark Webber finalizó decimonoveno sin marcar tiempo.

El piloto finlandés de Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen, ha marcado el mejor tiempo de la sesión 1.2 del Gran Premio de Italia de F1 que se ha disputado hoy en el circuito de Monza. Following hot on the heels of the historic Belgian Grand prix comes the equally celebrated Italian race. With minimum downforce and maximum speed Monza’s two requirements, it’s no wonder that the drivers love the circuit. One of its biggest fans is Honda’s Austrian reserve driver Alex Wurz, who talks us round a flying lap of the track “There is something very special about Monza. The setting, the noise of the Tifosi, the old banking crumbling in the background, the name - I like it all! It’s the only super-fast track on the calendar and everything happens very quickly for the drivers. It takes a few laps to get used to it, even if you’ve been racing all year.
This time last year Ferrari arrived in Italy flush from a superb one-two at the Turkish Grand Prix and eager to gain more ground in the race for the title. Istanbul victor Felipe Massa was especially confident he could make more inroads into Lewis Hamilton’s championship lead, in front of Ferrari’s adoring Tifosi. In the recent Monza test, however, it had been McLaren that set the pace on the Italian team’s home soil, with BMW Sauber very much in the running too, the F1.07’s low-downforce package looking particularly strong. Further down the grid, Spyker’s B-spec F8-VII was primed for its race debut.
Ferrari have announced an extension to Kimi Raikkonen’s contract for a further two seasons, keeping the world champion with the Italian team until the end of 2010. With Raikkonen’s team mate Felipe Massa also under contract for that period, it means Ferrari’s race line-up will remain unchanged…
