Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has been elected chairman of the FIA’s newly established Motor Sport Safety Development Fund. The Fund has been created to manage the distribution of motor sport safety-related grants from the FIA’s US$60 million share of the $100 million fine imposed on McLaren-Mercedes last year. El equipo Red Bull completó una buena tanda de clasificación, metiendo a sus dos piltos en la Q3, lástima del fuerte accidente, que sufrió David Coulthard al final de la Q2, sobre la salida del túnel y que lo arrastró a una de las pocas escapatorias del circuito tras las nueva Chicanne. David no pudo tomar parte en la Q3, y Mark Webber que sí lo hizo, sólo puedo ser noveno. Así pues ambos Red Bull saldrán mañana ocupando la quinta fila de la parrilla.

La parrilla de salida tendrá a los dos Ferrari en la primera línea de la parrilla de salida, con Felipe Massa en la Pole Position y Kimi Raikkonen en la segunda posición. Desde que Michael Schumacher lo consiguiera en el año 2000, no habíamos visto a otro Ferrari en la Pole en Mónaco, y el doblete les era esquivo desde 1979, cuando Jody Scheckter y Gilles Villeneuve también monopolizaron la primera línea de parrilla.

Con la amenaza de la lluvia de forma constante, al final, no hubo agua en la clasificación del GP de Mónaco. Por la mañana, los últimos entrenamientos libres se habían disputado sobre asfalto mojado, pero a la hora de la verdad, y a pesar de un cielo cubierto, nadie tuvo que lidiar con el agua.

Honda Racing F1 Team iniciará mañana el Gran Premio de Mónaco desde la mitad de la parrilla, después de una decepcionante sesión de clasificación en la que los dos pilotos tuvieron que interrumpir sus vueltas rápidas en la Q2.
