Riley’s Hall of Fame Party Underway

03/09/2008 04:39:03 Por: Terreno Deportivo Clasificado en: NBA Sin comentarios →

In the PALM BEACH POST, Chris Perkins writes “Pat Riley traveled to Springfield, Mass., with a group of friends and family Tuesday for this week’s Hall of Fame induction. Riley’s wife, Chris, and Riley’s close friend Ed Maull, also a member of the Heat’s front office, have apparently planned quite an itinerary when it comes to parties, receptions and things of that nature. ?It’s like the inauguration,’ Riley joked last week. Riley will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony Friday night, but festivities will go on through the weekend. Riley is being inducted along with Patrick Ewing, Akeem Olajuwon, Adrian Dantley, Dick Vitale, Cathy Rush and Bill Davidson. Some excerpts from Riley last week: Riley will never, ever say he’s 100 percent retired from coaching. But as far as coaching in the NBA, he’s done. “Unless it had to do internationally, with the Olympics or something like that, I don’t think there’s any question I?ve seen my last practice, my last game.?”

Tabuse Still Has Eyes on NBA Return

03/09/2008 04:39:02 Por: Terreno Deportivo Clasificado en: NBA Sin comentarios →

From the YOMIURI SHIMBUN, “Yuta Tabuse’s desire to play in the NBA again hasn’t waned. But playing in Japan will give him the valuable playing time that he never got in three years in the NBA Development League and sharpen his game for another shot at the top. ?My desire to once again try for the NBA has not changed,’ Tabuse said at a press conference Tuesday in Tokyo. ?I played three years in the development league, but I felt I needed a change of surroundings. I spent most of the time on the bench and I wanted to play more.’ Tabuse will get plenty of court time with the Link Tochigi Brex, the newest member of the Japan Basketball League with whom he signed a two-year contract. Tabuse, the only Japanese native to play in the NBA after appearing in four games with the Phoenix Suns in 2004, will be reunited with his high school coach, Mitsuhiko Kato.?

WNBA: Break Did Wonders for Emerging Sun Rookies

02/09/2008 03:18:47 Por: Terreno Deportivo Clasificado en: NBA Sin comentarios →

In the NORWICH BULLETIN, Matt Stout writes “Kerri Gardin sat in the Connecticut Sun locker room Sunday following their 80-76 victory over the Seattle Storm, and for one of few times this season, she didn’t sit by her locker while reporters popped in. Instead, with her knees iced and jersey untucked, she lounged in one of the adjacent couches, quietly surveying the scene. She looked tired after a wire-to-wire game, but more so, content and comfortable. She looked like she had done this a thousand times before. The thing is, it’s only been 29. She ? like Sun regulars Amber Holt and Sandrine Gruda ? is still just a rookie. ?What are you talking about?’ Tamika Whitmore asked, a smile spreading across the veteran’s face. ?They’re not rookies anymore.’?

Deng, Britain Gear Up for Israel Game

02/09/2008 03:18:47 Por: Terreno Deportivo Clasificado en: NBA Sin comentarios →

From BBC SPORT, Rob Dugdale writes “Great Britain’s game in Tel Aviv is the first of six qualifiers this summer over a span of 18 days. Bosnia and the Czech Republic are the other teams in the group. Israel, who reached the second phase of last year’s European finals in Spain, are the top seeds in the group. The Czechs, who also qualified last time out, will be GB’s first home opponents when they play at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday. GB are aiming to qualify for next year’s European finals in Poland, a feat no domestic national team has managed since 1981. While all eyes will be on Luol Deng, restored to the squad after three weeks of insurance wrangles were sorted out last weekend, Mensah-Bonsu has already shown that he is an international class player. ?With Luol back here it takes a load off a little bit and it makes my job easier. I’ll be able to adjust - I’ll be glad that someone else can be the focal point because it can be a little tiring at times.’”

On CBSSPORTS.COM, Tim Povtak writes “Dwight Howard will need no arm-twisting to convince him to return as the starting center on the USA Basketball team that will play in London at the Olympics in 2012, or even the one that will compete in 2016, wherever in the world those Games might be. He already is standing at the front of the line. ‘You can put my name down.
