Heribert Bruchhagen played for FC Gütersloh and coached the former 2. Bundesliga club before he became a sporting director for FC Schalke 04 (1988 - 1992), Hamburger SV (1992 - 1995) and Arminia Bielefeld (1998 - 2001).
